In July 2009, Jobs with Justice of Kentucky (JwJ) in partnership with Berea College, and in collaboration with many organizations in Kentucky and the tri-state area, held the first statewide Social Forum in the regional US south. The mission was to build a strong movement in Kentucky through enriched relationships among the diverse counties of the state and collaborations and organizing around the issues pertinent to Kentucky people‘s lives. The KY Social Forum (KYSF) set out to facilitate discussions across difference and geography with people that may not have previously been in contact, to create an agenda that will inevitably affect the state legislature and demand that human rights become a priority. This report will detail the participatory process used at the KYSF to plan the Social Forum and outline a statewide agenda based on the contributions of many organizations and individuals.
